Update: This is how you can identify kidnapped Mncube baby

Family Violence, Child Protection and Sexual Offences Unit supposed to investigate.

As hope is fading to find the Mncube baby who was kidnapped when he was only one day old, the family has issued another desperate plea to the community to assist them to find the baby.

The family has no photos of the baby, except for grainy CCTV footage on which he can not be identified. The mother, Thokozile had her cellphone stolen during the kidnapping. The family said though that the baby could be identified by birthmarks on the right side of his face – five or six dark spots.

Sophia Town Police Station failed to investigate the incident and handed over the case to the Family Violence, Child Protection and Sexual Offences Unit, but only five days after the kidnapping, wasting precious time. More than a month later the unit has yet to take statements from the family, compile identity kits or investigate leads.

The baby boy was kidnapped while his mother waited with him for a taxi in front of Coronation Hospital on 21 September.

Yesterday (31 October) the head of the unit, Colonel Kimba, indicated that he would urgently determine the status of the investigation.
