Pedestrian injured in accident

According to eyewitnesses, the driver hit the pedestrian who flew through the air and then landed on the street.

A pedestrian was seriously injured when hit by a vehicle during the late afternoon of Thursday, 6 October.

At approximately 5.30pm, the driver of the vehicle was travelling on Mimosa Street in the direction of Ruhama Drive. On approaching the stop street at the intersection of Mimosa and Wag-‘n-Bietjie Streets, she began to slow down when a man, believed to be in his 50s, walked into the street, right in front of her vehicle.

According to eyewitnesses, the driver hit the pedestrian who flew through the air and then landed on the street. Members from the Roodekrans Neighbourhood Watch were quickly on scene. The pedestrian was still breathing but had sustained head injuries and suspected neck injuries. After landing on the street, he tried to stand up, but members of the Roodekrans Neighbourhood Watch and public sat with him and kept him calm and still until the ambulance arrived.

The ambulance arrived at approximately 6pm and the patient was transported to hospital.

Authorities are busy investigating the incident.
