Two fatalities after collision

13-year-old girl and man killed when vehicle crashes through wall

An accident in Newlands claimed the lives of two people this afternoon (3 October).

A 13-year-old girl and a man, who is believed to be in his 30s were killed after they were hit by a car at the intersection of Long Road and 14th Road, Newlands. It is believed the girl was a Generaal De La Rey Primary School pupil.

ER24 and Life Healthcare paramedics found the girl’s body lying next to the road. On assessment, they found that she had already succumbed to her multiple fatal injuries. Nothing more could be done and she was declared dead on scene.

The vehicle and body of the man were found approximately 100 metres away inside a complex. Apparently the vehicle crashed through the wall of the complex and came to a stop inside.

The man who was also hit by the vehicle was found to be in a critical condition due to his numerous injuries. Paramedics immediately began treatment and provided the patient with advanced life support. Unfortunately, after some time, he also succumbed to his injuries.

The driver of the vehicle was assessed and it was found that he had only minor injuries.

The cause of the collision is unknown. Local authorities were on scene and the matter will be investigated further.
