Queen Butterfly gets new wheels

Making a difference in the lives of those in need

The Queen Butterfly Foundation recently celebrated its first birthday with a touch of class. The ‘High Tea with Hats’ fundraiser, hosted by entertainer Rick Alan, was held during August at the NG Kerk in Kloofendal. Beautiful butterfly themed tables were adorned with dainty delectables and ladies and gents alike wore hats of all descriptions to celebrate.

Fundraising chairperson and organiser of the event, Samantha Nel, said as they are a stimulation centre for children with disabilities, they like to hold fundraisers that are enormous fun, whilst still boosting the centre’s financial strength.

In keeping with Women’s Month, the guest speaker, Mark Grobbelaar, founder of Women INpowered, was highly entertaining, but still brought home the fundamental choices women have to make when faced with life-threatening situations.

The highlight of the day was the handover of a Nissan NV 7-seater which was donated by the CEO of Uranus Investments, Jeff van Rooyen and his close associates. As he handed the keys over to founder and principal of the Queen Butterfly Foundation, Palesa Mofokeng, Jeff encouraged her to hold on to the vision she has for her organisation, and maintain the courage necessary to fulfill her destiny. That way, she will leave a legacy, having made a meaningful difference in the lives of many. Having come from humble beginnings himself and progressed in his career through hard work and dedication, and overcoming many challenges, Jeff is living proof of what is possible despite the odds being stacked against you in the beginning.

At the end of the event, raffle winners were drawn and prizes were given for the most ingenious hat as well as the most beautifully decorated table.

“I am truly humbled by the enormous support my organisation has received from Jeff and so many other donors. It is encouraging that people of his calibre believe in what I aim to achieve and have made the next step possible by helping us achieve the milestone of owning transport for the centre. Now I can safely and proudly transport the Queen Butterfly children to and from school each day and drive my organisation to the next level. I also want to thank the professional photographers from Dreamland Photography, who were kind enough to photograph the event,” said a grateful Palesa.
