Bosmont’s Ricardo Luckay placed third when he participated in the 2016 Spar Junior Chef competition. The event took place during the July school holidays at Eastgate Mall. Children from 9 to 12 years of age had a chance to compete for the title of Junior Chef and win various prizes. The participants were required to cook a dish to impress judges as well as a mystery dish. Although Ricardo was the only boy in the top 5 finalists, he was not intimidated by the competition and sought to show off his vast array of cooking skills.
“I love curry and any dish with curry is my favourite. Curry is so unique and has lots of flavour. Whether its mince, chicken or mutton curry, I love it. So for the competition I cooked mince curry and for the mysterious dish we had to make a chocolate marshmallow mousse,” said the Discovery Primary Full Service School pupil.

Ricardo’s passion for cooking started at five years old when his mother started teaching him. It did not take long for the youngster to start having ambitions of being a top chef. He participated in the Spar competition to gauge his progress towards his dream. Besides becoming a top chef, the 12 year old also has plans to become a school teacher.
“It was a fun competition to participate in and being in third place made me more confident in what I can do. My mother even said I’m a better cook than her so it feels good,” he said.
Ricardo not only walked away with a shopping voucher, he was also gifted with the top-of-the-range utensils he used during the competition.
