Body found floating in dam

Body found this weekend

Roodepoort police are urging the Durban Deep community to come forward with any information they may have about an unidentified body.

The body, believed to be of a male in his early 30s, was found floating in a dam, by community members during the weekend. The police were alerted, and subsequently found a stab wound at the back of the man’s head.

“No community member came forward to claim the body, so it was transported to a government mortuary. Anyone who has information on the incident should please come forward and assist us,” said Captain Nonhlanhla Khumalo, spokesperson for the Roodepoort Police.

Claw’s Cora Bailey, who works in the area, was one of the people on scene when the body was found and said this has become the norm in the mining area. “These are common occurrences in this area. All sorts of criminal activities take place here. It’s not just connected to the illegal mining that takes place,” she said.
