Breaking: Is Marthinus Pelser communicating with the outside world illegally?

An investigation was launched immediately.

Shocking allegations are being made that Marthinus Pelser, who is currently incarcerated for the death of his six-month-old baby, has a cellphone at his disposal in the Krugersdorp Correctional Facility.

These allegations surfaced this past Friday (5 August). A person close to the deceased baby boy’s mother, said various people are claiming he has made contact with them asking among other things for airtime and cigarettes. One message allegedly read “do not call me now, there is a police officer in the cells”. These allegations have yet to be either proven or disproved.

The most damning evidence though is the fact that on 1 August (Pelser has been in prison since 15 June) he was communicating with someone on Facebook (see screen grab). It is uncertain who the other person is. Pelser somehow must have accessed his Facebook account while in prison. While being incarcerated, he also blocked his ex-wife from his account.

Linda de Klerk, the spokesperson for the correctional facility said cell phones are strictly forbidden at all times, including during visiting hours. She immediately launched an investigation.

The Record is awaiting feedback from De Klerk.
