Lions Clubs need your help

Appeal for community's help for people affected by the recent storms

The Lions Clubs of Roodepoort and Wilro Park have reached out a helping hand to the East Rand area.

This area was severely affected by the recent storms and tornado and suffered extensive damage to hospitals, houses, farms, paddocks and fencing for animals. Some of the people lost everything they owned. In an effort to help the people with rebuilding the damaged structures, the Lions Clubs of Roodepoort immediately made a financial donation to the local Community Policing Forum in the East Rand.

“We welcome all donations of building materials – even welding rods will be much appreciated,” said Sandy van Heerden, the Lions Clubs International’s Public Relations Officer.

The Lions Clubs of Wilro Park donated 70 blankets towards this cause.

The other clubs in District 410B, which consists of 39 clubs from Gauteng, Limpopo, Northwest and Mpumalanga are also getting involved in this project. In addition, members of the community are asked to please support the Lions Clubs in this project and assist with donations.

Any non-perishable food item, blankets and clothes will be welcome. Small gas stoves and gas cylinders can also be used, as there is no power in these areas and the people cannot prepare food. Building materials are also needed.

All donations will be going to one collection point and will be distributed from there.

If you are able to assist with donations, please contact the Zone Chairman, Walter Ortell on 073 125 5008.
