Motorcycle legend passes away

Believed to have suffered a heart attack.

Motorcycle and drag racing champion, Wayne Heasman passed away on Saturday after suffering what is believed to have been a heart attack.

An employee of Wayne Heasman Racing, Sandy Botha, said at about 9.30am the 59-year-old Wayne complained about not feeling well and that he was going to sit in his bakkie for a short while until he felt better. When employees went to check on him about 10 minutes later they found that he had died.

Botha said, “We are totally shocked and saddened. He was a good man and loved by his employees and customers alike. Customers have not stopped calling and popping into the shop.”

Heasman’s daughter Andrea wrote on the business’ Facebook page “My dad will be sorely missed. You were and still are my hero, a legend to us all! A friend to everyone you knew, you helped so many people in need, even absolute strangers, mom and I, the grand kids, family and friends, WE MISS YOU SO MUCH! At least you are with Monique … I can’t believe it! I just can’t believe it! I LOVE YOU!”

Funeral arrangements have not been finalised yet, but the Record will inform the community as soon as it becomes available.
