Gold at Nationals for Judo Club

Winning is in the blood for these judokas

Four judokas from the Doryoku Judo Club returned home with gold medals recently. They had to compete against judokas from all over the country at the South African National Judo Championships held at Carnival City.

The club took 15 participants, who all excelled in their various categories, to the competition.

Michael van Niekerk won his gold medal in the 14 years U/60 kilogram weight division, while Dylan Martin achieved in the 12 years U/60 kg category. This is the second consecutive time Dylan has won his category at the national competition.

Rudi Rademeyer achieved a gold medal in the Masters 35 to 39 years U/90kg group, while Jacques Rossouw continued his winning streak, picking up a gold medal in the Masters 45 to 49 years U/73 kg group. Earlier this year, Jacques won a bronze medal in the Commonwealth Judo Championships in Nelson Mandela Bay.

The club will now be preparing for the SA Schools Judo Tournament, which will take place in Gauteng in the first week of October. Judoka from the age of seven to 14 years will participate in the competition. Head coach Danie Bruwer is aiming to send as many competitors as possible, so that they can gain experience.
