Rhema Church help the needy

Helping those who need it the most

The Rhema Bible Church – Western District visited Durban Deep Primary School bearing gifts. The school’s pupils come from disadvantaged backgrounds and as winter is in full swing, the church felt a need to help.

After hearing about the pupils’ daily struggles, Pastor Divani Singh and her Zone leaders approached several corporate companies to help sponsor the pupils.

“We want to do something that is socially significant and is evangelically potent. The children we are helping today are orphaned and only eat at school. They struggle to get school uniforms and the most basic necessities,” said Singh.

Rhema Western District brought R300 000 worth of school uniforms and jerseys, gloves, socks, underwear, backpacks filled with goodies and sanitary pads.

“We want to highlight the plight of these pupils to the community and appeal to those who want to help to come forward. There is still plenty to be done at this school, such as upgrading infrastructure and the water system. These children do not have much. The young girls have to use tissues as sanitary pads and that is not healthy. Some do not even have underwear. These are things that we take for granted so as a community we have to come together and help the pupils of this school,” said Singh.

Another sponsor the Rhema Western District approached will be donating a library to the school. Pastor Singh is hoping this will encourage the pupils to excel in their education.
