‘Rape taxi’ strikes for the third time in a week

Residents and their employees who use taxis are warned to be vigilant

According to the Florida Police and a resident, the ‘rape taxi’ has struck three times in the past week.

The Florida Police have issued a warning about the Toyota Quantum whose occupants, including the driver, rob and rape their victims. This past week a woman boarded a taxi on the corner of Ontdekkers and Gordon Roads. There were three males in the vehicle. On their way to Westgate Shopping Centre one of the suspects hit the woman with a firearm and forced her to lie down. They demanded her money and the PIN for her bank card, but there was no money in her account.

Another woman then boarded the taxi, and they treated her in the same manner.

A resident also reported that her friend had boarded a taxi on the corner of Ontdekkers Road and Golf Club Terrace on Saturday evening. The modus operandi of this group was the same as that in previous incidents – a Toyota Quantum taxi with three male occupants was used. When they got close to the Caltex Garage on Golf Club Terrace the woman told them she wanted to get off but one of the suspects hit her with a steel object and forced her onto the floor. They took her handbag, jewellery, cash, cell phone, groceries and other personal items. They were armed and held a gun to her neck all the time, said the friend. They threatened to rape her but did not follow through.

According to the resident, the victim went to the clinic for medical care. While there, she was told that the clinic had seen several similar incidents since January.

Residents and their employees who use taxis are warned to be vigilant.
