Tekke Tax at Arthur Matthews

Tekkie Tax Day

With Child Protection Week just days away, Arthur Mattews Primary participated in the 2016 Tekkie Tax day to help Non-profit organizations (NGO).

Tekkie Tax day was founded in 2013 and raised R2,4 million. The school was approached by the Johannesburg Institute of Social Services who helped ensure the pupils understood what the day was about.

Since the beginning the campaign has raised R13.7 million thanks to the hundreds of South Africans and Organisations that have participated in this Fundraising campaign.

The almost 1000 pupils of the school purchased R10 Tekkie Tax day stickers each to wear them along with. For those who wanted to spice up their tekkies, there was special shoelaces called Tekkie Tags.

Tekkie Tax is divided into five sectors from which people can choose a sticker, namely; Animals, Bring Hope, Children, Disability and Education.

The Principal of Arthur Matthews Primary School, George Solomons requested all pupils to purchase the Children Stickers.

“This is a way to teach our pupils about giving back to the community and about charity,” he said.

The Children Sticker supports all NGO’s that focus on the well-being and needs of Children.

Soraya Kajee and Hassina Vally from the Johannesburg Institute of Social Services said the day has been growing in leaps and bounds each year since it’s inception and this year they identified Arthur Matthews as the school they wanted partner with.

”The beneficiary organisations have been carefully selected, handpicked and carefully checked to ensure that no matter which sector choose to support, your donation will be used in the best possible way,” said Kajee.
