Man up for dumbest criminal of the year award

Suspect's behaviour raised suspicion.

A 25-year-old suspect’s faux pas might have put him in line to win the Darwin Award (a satirical award for the dumbest act of the year).

On Wednesday at about 10am at the Florida Police Station Community Service Centre (CSC), the man explained to the shift commander in the presence of detective Constable Essop Bhaijee that he has been ordered by the Roodepoort Magistrates’ Court to do community service (Adult Diversion Programme) at the police station.

The complainant, Bhaijee, alleged that he noticed the man’s suspicious and strange behaviour and posture as he was explaining his presence to the CSC commander.

He requested to search him and found a clear ziplock packet containing a white powder, suspected to be drugs (Cat). He was arrested immediately for possession of drugs and detained in the police cells.

The suspect was arrested for the same offence on several previous occasions. He will appear – again – in the Roodepoort Magistrates’ Court soon.
