Lions host Buddy Day

Buddy Day for Lions Clubs

Not even the wet and gloomy conditions could dampen the bright smiles this past weekend as Lions International hosted their annual Buddy Day.

With incessant rainfall, the event had to be moved into the hall of West Ridge High School where its hosted annually.

Local Lions clubs such as Clearwater Cyber, Krugersdorp, The Wilds, Northcliff, Roodepoort Host, Weltevreden and Johannesburg South attended.

Buddy Day is an initiative of West Rand Lions clubs where 150 pupils from different schools get an opportunity to partner and take care of 150 mentally and/or physically disabled guests.

The day is fun orientated with various activities and entertainment on offer.

The events convener Karl Bands said the initiative is a way the Lions clubs contributes to the community.

“Lions International will be celebrating its centenary next year and we have accomplished so much over the years in being of service to our community. Each club contributes to help with the various charity projects. With sponsors such as OPT Security, ER24 Medical Care and Dubar Crushers, the day has been a success” he said.

One project the organization has been running successfully for 14 years is their Eye clinic. It has been supplying spectacles to the less fortunate at a cheaper rate. This is because together with optometrists who are eager to help, they find affordable frames and lenses for those in need.

This year there were various stalls with fun games, tasty treats, as well as magicians whom the buddies and their guests could enjoy.
