#HaveAHeartCentre ready for you

The Record's new project will inspire you, too, to have a heart and help out.

To ensure its sustainability, the Record has partnered with the Have A Heart Care Centre, which will open its doors officially in May.

The centre, established in February by Marius Oelofse, is aimed at reestablishing the dignity of Roodepoort’s elderly by providing shelter and food to those who receive merely a basic government pension.

The care centre will offer accommodation to those receiving a monthly old-age grant (pension) from the South African Social Security Agency (Sassa), which is R1 500. The centre will charge a Sassa old-age grant recipient R950 per month for accommodation and three meals a day. Pensioners will share rooms. Marius set the boarding rate at this amount to afford residents part of their pension for toiletries and other personal expenses. There is room for 40 pensioners in the building the NPO is renting at 47 Van Wyk Street in the Roodepoort CBD. A lot still needs to be done in terms of maintenance on the building itself and furnishing it, not to mention in terms of food, crockery and cutlery.

New hope for elderly in CBD

The Record is launching the #HaveAHeartCentre initiative with the elderly’s plight in mind. As from today, Thursday 28 April, the editorial staff at the Record and the staff of Have A Heart Care Centre appeal to residents and corporates to help them establish a happy, forever-home for Roodepoort’s elderly in the CBD. The collective is looking for donations in all shapes and sizes, but bear in mind any large furniture donations will have to be transported to the facility by donors themselves. All monetary donations will be handled directly by and through the NPO, without the Record being an agent. Marius will provide the NPO’s banking details on request.

Donors will receive recognition both at the centre and through regular Record editorial content about the developments at the centre.

Help us give our elderly back their dignity and provide a loving, comfortable home for them.
