Graphic video and foul language: Dog mauls housebreaker, then gets shot

This video of an incident in Cape Town shows how two dogs attack a housebreaker. Bystanders try to stop the dogs but one refuses to let go. Eventually the dog is shot. The homeowners were not home.

Now questions are being raised – why kill the dog? Didn’t it do what it was supposed to do, protect its family’s property? Wouldn’t it be more justified to kill it had it attacked a toddler or another innocent person? Was this not an opportunity to send out a clear message to criminals?

This debate is raging on social media but we would like to know what you think.
