Dowry Security’s reaction manager Marcel Jonker may be out protecting homes and apprehending criminals during the day but when the sun set it’s a different case.
During the evening, he entertains wrestling fans as The Ripper or 2Face and also as part of the tag team Dementors of Chaos (D.O.C) with Dirty Jackson.
The tag team has been dominating the wrestling circuit for three years, becoming a household name in the country.
The 27-year-old has been a wrestling fan since he was five-years-old as he watched Hulk Hogan strutting his stuff in the ring.
However it was not until 2008 when he decided become a professional wrestler and trained with the likes of Steve Eden.
From rugby and ice hockey to mixed martial arts training and quad biking, Jonker lives for the thrill and all these different disciplines have helped him become a better wrestler.
“It has taught me a lot in terms of self defence and being patient but it also helps when it comes to my day to day occupation when dealing with criminals,” he said.
Jonker does stress that fans of wrestling needed to make a distinction between someone’s wrestling persona and their real personality.
“I love metal music and horror movies so my two personas are taken from such influences. The Ripper is a combination of Freddy Kruger and Jason Voorhees while 2Face is modeled from The Joker. These personas are completely different from who I really am in society and fans need to know that,” he said.
As he has progressed in professional wrestling, Jonker’s personas have also seen a growth.
Fans would know him as a wild metal head with piercings all over his face. But as the years have gone, he has slowly matured.
“When I started I was in a differently phase of my life and that showed in my personas. Now however I have grown up a bit more but the madness is still there. During the day I follow the rules yet my ring personas are a complete opposite,” he said.
Jonker who describes himself as a big man with a soft heart loves animals and fights for children’s rights and with a supportive fiancé at home, he is looking to enjoy wrestling for a few more years to come.
“Wrestling is another world for me so I use my personas as an escape from reality to fit in this world,” he said.
Fans will not have to wait long to see the sadistic side of Jonker as he will be coming at as 2Face, with a baseball bat and chains at the Hoërskool Die Burger event on 5 March. With his tag partner Dirty Jackson who can be seen with a heavy chain following him. They will be facing off against Xterminator and Max Detonator in the main event. It will be a no disqualification, pin anywhere, anything goes and no rules match.
