Chinese New Year is celebrated at the beginning of the Chinese Lunar calendar every year.

The celebration is seen as a time to honor ancestors and deities.

This year the day fall on 8 February and festivities will usually continue for 15 days. Celebrations run from the evening to the day including special traditions like a family reunion dinner and cleansing of the house to sweep away ill-fortune and make way for good luck.

Celebrators also decorate windows and doors, light firecrackers and gift money in red envelopes. Countries and territories with significant Chinese populations celebrate this day.
