James in high spirits

Boxer James Britz is climbing up the rankings thanks to his recent win.

It has been more than half a year since Witpoortjie Vikings Amateur Club’s pride and joy James Britz made his professional debut.

Although he lost his debut match, he came back strongly in December when he participated in his second professional bout.

The 30-year-old, who returned to boxing just three-years ago faced off against Stanley Motsuenyane in Boksburg, who is ranked in 30th place in the South African rankings.

He was on the same bill as another local boxer Hansie Carr.

Britz beat Motsuenyane on a points decision and this saw his ranking rise up to 27.

“It was a nice and tough fight to go through. I’ve been working hard so it felt good to get rewarded for all the effort I put in. This also shows in the ranking because the boxer I was up against is ranked fighter,” said Britz.

Britz will now be trying to increase his training hours as he chases his goal of winning a title within the year.

“I might be having a match in March but we are still organising the logistics around it. Until then I’ll just concentrate on training being match ready,” he said.
