Toddler who plunged: Docket in court today

The court will decide whether there are grounds to proceed with prosecuting the parents.

Today (Monday 11 January) it will be decided whether the parents of the toddler who plunged to his death will be prosecuted.

Roodepoort Police spokesperson Warrant Officer Nonhlanhla Khumalo confirmed the inquest docket will be taken to the Roodepoort Magistrate’s Court today to decide whether prosecution is necessary.

Khumalo said the investigating officer obtained statements from both parents on Friday morning (8 January) after they asked to be given time to bury their son.

Community shocked as child dies in balcony plunge

The three-year-old boy passed away on Saturday 19 December after plunging from the balcony of the family’s third-floor apartment in Grobler Park. He was allegedly left home alone while his mother went out Christmas shopping.

She allegedly attempted suicide by drinking poison after the discovery.
