Roodepoort shows ubuntu in water collection

Ubuntu is alive and well in Roodepoort.

The community of Roodepoort showed that ubuntu is still alive in the West Rand.

Residents came in their numbers on Sunday to the Horizon Village Shopping Centre with litres and litres of water to donate to the Free State farmer.

Florida 21 Round Table were given a spot in the parking lot next and started to collect water by 8am.

Young and old could be seen, walking or driving towards the collection point.

The numbers kept on increasing and the parking lot was soon filled with bottles of various shapes and sizes.

Some of the bottles had messages of support written on them from the donators.

By the end of the day, 22 650-litres of water was collected however, due to a struggle with transport, about 16 000- litres were sent Kroonstad.

“This became much bigger than what we thought it would be ad it’s very overwhelming. Our initial aim was 1000 litres but we surpassed that. We saw parents coming here with children and this is a fantastic way for them to learn the importance of water and coming together to help. We had the help of Northridge 117 and Boksburg 17 who have similar initiatives,” said Round Tables’ Joseph Heckler.

Florida 21 Round Table is planning to organize more dates for residents around the West Rand to donate water.

Anyone who wish to contribute to this worthy cause can call Heckler on 076 188 3738 or vice chairman Gerhard van den Berg on 074 204 3484.
