Details of his death still hazy, but Roodepoort police investigating.

The Roodepoort Police confirmed a murder case was opened following the death of Ward 51 councillor Siphiwe Zulu, 52.

Zulu was responsible for municipal issues in the greater Zola in Soweto. He was shot on 31 December in Witpoortjie and rushed to Leratong Hospital. Unfortunately, he succumbed to his injuries while hospitalised.

Roodepoort Police spokesperson Nonhlanhla Khumalo confirmed his death, saying the suspect or suspects are still unknown and the police is investigating. Details are still very unclear.

ANC head of communications Sipho Masigo confirmed his death and expressed his condolences on behalf of the party.

“We believe he was shot and killed in Witpoortjie, there is a lot of speculation that it happened during a robbery but the facts are still not known, police are still investigating,” he said.

The ANC is hosting both a memorial service and funeral service for Zulu on 11 and 14 January. The memorial service will start at 4pm at the Zola Sports Complex on 11 January and the funeral service will be held at 10am on 14 January at the same place.
