Many people have animals but do not understand them.

Dogs communicate with people in various ways and instead of getting annoyed at a dog’s growling, why not learn more about why they do so?

According to a press statement from the NSPCA, it is human nature to tell the dog off when it growls at your child or new puppy.

They added if people teach them not to provide a warning before they bite, they will bite without warning.

“If you take the growl out of the dog it is just like taking the batteries out of a fire alarm,” was quoted at a Dog-Bite Prevention conference.

Dogs usually growl at people or a new puppy that has entered their ‘territory’ when they feel their space has been invaded.

It is important for parents to teach children not to play with a dog that is eating or chewing a toy or sleeping because they need privacy too.

Next time, if you see a child playing with a dog and the dog growls, take them away as they may be provoking it.
