Generosity shown to Roodepoort Care for the Aged

RCA receives a generous donation from Johannesburg Care Foundation.

Roodepoort Care for the Aged (RCA) received a significant donation from Johannesburg Care Foundation (JCF) this week.

RCA manager Andy Harris received the R10 000 donation from JCF founder, Llewellyn Ryan in the Tornado Park hall on Wednesday morning 9 December.

RCA works to better the lives of elderly people and help them with essential needs, like basic transport to hospitals and medical centres, providing cooked meals, running the Meals on Wheels-service and providing social services. They work with 815 members in Roodepoort and 270 in Soweto, and the old age homes they support include Donovan McDonald, Klein Helderkruin and Tornado Park. Harris told the Record just their transport services run the organisation an average of R15 000 a month.

“This donation will greatly help us provide our services to the elderly residents of Roodepoort,” he said.

Harris is also involved with the Gauteng Older Persons’ Forum and the South African Older Persons’ Forum and said the need for donation, all around South Africa, is growing and imminent to their work.

Ryan thanked readers for their continued support of JCF, who make donations to other local organisations and provide care and food hampers, throughout the year. He appeals to business and individuals to continue supporting both organisations in order for them to care for Roodepoort’s elderly.
