Man allegedly robbed by police officers

Police took keys out of ignition.

A Witpoortjie resident says he lives in fear and distrust after two ‘police officers’ allegedly robbed him on Friday night.

The man said he went to withdraw money at about 10am at the Witpoortjie Pick n Pay’s FNB ATM. After drawing the money he was driving towards the Engen garage on Generaal Pienaar Avenue when two police officers in a police van pulled him over. The driver opened the man’s door while the police officer’s colleague opened the passenger door.

The driver of the police van took the keys out of the ignition and told the man if he moved “there would be problems”. They conducted a quick search of his vehicle, which did not last more than five minutes and they left.

When the man went through his belongings he found his cell phone was gone and his wallet was emptied of R1 000.

Roodepoort Police spokesperson Nonhlanhla Khumalo has asked that the man open a case at Roodepoort Police Station in order for the incident to be investigated.
