HIV/AIDS affects the family too

Tell us if you have been affected as a family member.

Although World Aids Day is commemorated globally, many forget about who really is affected – the family.

The day was introduced for the first time on 1 December 1988 to highlight the disease and its effects on the world.

It was also held to remove the stigma from the disease and halt false rumours about how Aids was contracted.

Everyone is encouraged to support Aids victims as well as their family members by wearing a red ribbon.

If you know someone who was affected by this virus, let us know how it impacted you and how your life has changed.
