Another blow for illegal mining

The operation was a success.

This past Tuesday Roodepoort Police, the Tactical Response Team (TRT) and JMPD joint forces for another onslaught on illegal mining.

The operation, which was lead by Colonel André Laing from Roodepoort Police station, saw the Zama Zama’s shacks in Matholliesville being destroyed and a variety of mining equipment confiscated and destroyed. This included 22 20lt buckets with sand, two 14 kg gas cylinders, one pendunka stand, one tripod, one wheel barrow, a 120m hosepipe, one spade, one mine lamp with battery pack,11 detonators and 80g dagga, 14 James tables was also destroyed, 23 illegal mining shacks and 341 000lt water buckets.

According to spokesperson Warrant Officer Khumalo the operation was a success.
