Rand Water implements water restrictions, but…

Residents asked to conserve water.

Rand Water has instructed the City of Johannesburg, City of Tshwane and the Ekurhuleni Metropolitan Municipality to implement water restrictions due to the fact that the water supply is under “severe strain.

The restrictions means no water use outside from 6am until 9pm. It includes a ban on using hose pipes and sprinklers, filling swimming pools and washing vehicles.

Use water sparingly, urges Rand Water

But in a questionable move Joburg Water said it would not implement the restrictions because its reservoirs are full. This regardless of the fact that meteorologists have predicted the country will only have substantial rainfall next autumn.

South Africa is currently experiencing its worst drought in 23 years according to experts and is one of 13 countries with the worst water scarcity.
