CoJ and JRA working on more roads in our area, more information here.

Eight roads are currently being resurfaced and nine more projects will take off in Roodepoort towards the end of this year, in line with the City of Johannesburg’s Roads Rehabilitation and Reconstruction Programme.

To date 22 of the planned 47 projects have been completed and eight roads in Roodepoort are still under construction. The programme is spearheaded by the Johannesburg Roads Agency (JRA) and is part of CoJ’s drive to invest in and improve Johannesburg’s 13 428km road network. Bramfischerville, Roodekrans, Fleurhof, Roodepoort, Ruimsig, Quellerina and Zandspruit are next in line for upgrades.

MMC for Transport, councillor Christine Walters, said the resurfacing projects in the region will not only improve the general quality of roads but will also help ease traffic congestion and boost economic activity.

Completed projects in Roodepoort include McGrath Street and Generaal Pienaar Street (Witpoortjie), Num Num Street, Cemetery Road and Umbuluzi Street (Bramfischerville), Van Staden Road (Ruimsig), Fredenharry Street (Strubens Valley), David Road (Constantia Kloof), Zebrina Avenue and Hexrivier Road (Wilropark) and Uys Krige Avenue (Florida).

In the past year JRA has also successfully repaired 45 000 potholes, 2 000 more than their initial target, and cleaned more than 7 500 kerb inlets.

Currently the JRA is working to complete the following projects:

• Wonderboom and Blouhaak Avenues (Weltevreden Park)

• Petunia Street (Florida)

• Albertina Sisulu Road (Technikon)

• Doreen Avenue (Poortview)

• Hossack Avenue (Horizon View)

• Serissa Avenue (Roodekrans)

• Fairway Street (Ruimsig)

• Florin Road (Wilgeheuwel)

Other projects still to be completed in 2015/ 2016:

• Gravel road upgrades in Tshepisong and Bramfischerville

• Reconstruction and rehabilitation (various parts of Roodepoort)

• Conversion of open drains to underground drains in Bramfischerville
