Gas explosion in Discovery

Nobody was hurt.

Nobody was hurt when a gas canister exploded in an open field at Steynberg Avenue in Discovery on Monday night. However, the explosion did cause damage to a nearby home, breaking windows.

It is still unclear what caused the explosion but Tornado Blockwatch’s Greg Hogan said they did not even know who the gas canister belongs to.

“Investigations are still underway but according to neighbours, they heard hissing sounds coming from the field. When they went outside to check, they found the gas canister was leaking. It shortly exploded afterwards. We think that someone might have been braaing and when something went wrong with the canister, they abandoned it at the field,” said Hogan.
