Roodepoort rotting from thieves and violence

According to official crime statistics of 2015.

Roodepoort is ridden with thieves, violence, drugs, illegal guns and drunken drivers, according to the latest crime statistics.

National crime statistics up to March 2015 were released earlier this week and the content thereof was dooming for the Roodepoort Police Station, that fell under the top 10 worst precincts nationally in terms of malicious injury to property, burglary and robbery at residences, motor vehicle theft and carjacking. Other statistical revelations might also shock the community; 3 per cent more vehicles were stolen this year than last year, 7 per cent more shoplifting incidents were reported and 85 per cent more trucks were hijacked in the area. Residential robberies have also gone up by a shocking 34 per cent.

Less incidents of violent crimes have been reported; murder is down by 9 per cent, attempted murder by 22 per cent, common assault by 39 per cent and assault with the intent to cause grievous bodily harm (GBH) by 18 per cent. Commercial crime has lowered by 28 per cent.

Despite being one of the top 10 worst precincts in this regard, malicious injury to property has gone down by 11 per cent since last year and arson by a shocking 88 per cent.

About the same amounts of illegal firearms and ammunition were detected this year but 312 drunken drivers were apprehended, 46 per cent more than in 2014. Slightly less drug-related crimes were reported.

Only 6 cases of public violence was reported this year in comparison to 14 last year. Only 26 culpable homicide cases were opened to the 60 last year.

Residents can rest assured that children aren’t neglected or ill-treated in the area, this going down by a stunning 75 per cent compared to last year. Less kidnappings have also taken place. Less businesses were robbed this year than before.

The Roodepoort Police is yet to comment on the statistics that have been released.
