Horizon View blockwatch hosts braai

Horizon View Blockwatch celebrates Heritage Day by giving back to the community.

The Horizon View Blockwatch celebrated National Braai Day and Heritage Day by hosting a Crime Awareness Day.
The event was held at The Village Shopping Centre in Horizon View and the community was taught about what to do to prevent themselves from being a victim of crime.
The event was to also encourage the community to join the block watch and community policing forums.
Wors rolls were available for free while children played to their hearts content jumping up and down on the Jumping Castle.
The blockwatch’s patrol captain James Clarke said most people should not be concerned with their own well-being as crime affects everyone and working together as neighbours makes a difference.
“One needs to be involved in their surroundings and know what is going on. We constantly update our members via WhatsApp and messages about criminal activities and safety tips. Only when one is ignorant do they become a victim,” said.
DA councillor Suzanne Clarke stopped by the event to give her support to the blockwatch and chatted to the community while the City of Johannesburg’s Emergency Medical Services’ public relations and education team and the Fire Department had an exhibition.
