Franzelle grabs silver at championships
Athlete wins silver at district competition.
Hoërskool Bastion’s Franzelle Mertz had a big smile after she was selected to be part of the D2 Gauteng West team.
The 15-year-old cross running athlete managed to claim silver in the muddy and wet conditions of the D2 district championships this weekend.
The event hosted at Hoërskool Monument had schools such as hoërskole Bekker, Noordheuwel and Riebeekrand participating.
Mertz has been training in cross country and athletics for three years and is part of the Roodepoort Athletics Club where she gets extra training.
“I have been working hard and I want to represent South Africa at the highest level,” she said.
