Mini war zone in Discovery this morning

One suspect wounded.

Cutten Street residents were woken this morning by the sound of gun fire as a shootout took place between a house robber and the police.

A resident on his way to work left his house at 6am when he was suddenly confronted in his back yard by three suspects of whom two were armed. They ordered him back in the house. According to the man the suspects kept on telling him they knew everything that goes on in the house and told him to open the safe. After they tied him and his wife up they left with cash and jewellery. One suspect fled up to Kilburn Street scaling the boundary walls but when he reached Killburn Street he was apprehended by a tow truck driver who was parked nearby.
By this time both Apcan Security and the Roodepoort police have been alerted by the victims’ male domestic worker who was hiding in the back yard.
Another suspect fled down Raath Street and ran into a drive way to hide. When the Apcan reaction officer reached him he drew a gun but the officer shot a warning shot and the suspect dropped his gun.
In the meanwhile the police cornered the third suspect in the yard neighbouring the victim’s house. A shootout ensued and the police wounded the suspect.
All the stolen goods were recovered.
The victim told the Record that he was saddened by the fact that afterwards he recognised one of the suspects as someone he knew.
Cases of armed house robbery and attempted murder have been opened.
