Granny chases after thief

This former bodybuilder and grandmother of one takes no nonsense from criminals and believes in being a good citizen.

Felicity Spaarman has for the past nine years been transporting children to and from schools in the area.

This past Tuesday (25 August) she was doing her rounds in her little Kia Picanto, when in the vicinity of Roodebeeck Primary, at the corner of Koeberg and Bataan Streets, she saw a suspect snatch a tablet device from two Grade 9 girls.

Having a husband, who is a brigadier in the police, she coincidentally had a lanyard in her purse from a congress he attended. Spaarman gave chase in her vehicle and cornered the man further down the street. She opened her window and flashed the lanyard telling the thief she is a police officer.

Without trying to resist he came to the vehicles window, apologised and handed the tablet back.

Spaarman said she did not want to take a chance and try apprehend the man, but rather wanted to assist the two girls by offering them a ride.
