Albertina Sisulu – Road of accidents?

Sales assistant claims about two people get knocked over on this road every week.

According to a sales person at Planet Seating, every week about two pedestrians get knocked over in Albertina Sisulu Road in front of their shop.

“Cars often overtake other cars and pedestrians do not see it. That road has a double lane and motorists are only able to see what happens on the right hand side of their car but not the left,” said sales person, Kobie Britz.

Rudi Steynberg, owner of Roodepoort Accident Repair Centre (Rarc) Panelbeaters which is situated close to Planet Seating has confirmed the events.

“Yes, about one or two people, mainly staff members of Planet Seating, gets knocked over by a car every week and usually I am the first person Britz calls when the accidents happen,” said Steynberg.

Wayne Minnaar, spokesperson for the Johannesburg Metropolitan Police Department (JMPD) said he is not aware of the accidents that takes place on that road.

“All motorists can see the road clearly because it is levelled. The problem is pedestrians cross over the dual carriageway road and not at the traffic lights,” said Minaar.

Minnaar added pedestrians need to be cautious when crossing the streets and they should always use the traffic lights.

Report all accidents to the JMPD on 011-758-9100.
