Primary school petrol bombed

Principal's vehicle damaged.

At about 12.50pm yesterday an unknown person hurled a petrol bomb (Molotov cocktail) at Roodepoort Primary and in the process set the principal’s motor vehicle on fire.

This comes after a protracted dispute between members of the community and the school. The group demands that the principal, who is black, be removed from her post and a coloured principal be appointed.

Since the dispute started last year numerous veiled threats of violence have been made.

No one was injured but a source said some of the children were severely traumatised.

The Roodepoort Police has confirmed the incident.

The Record is awaiting more comment from various sources.
