Write a satirical poem

Get creative and practice your writing skills by writing a clever poem.

Get your pen and paper ready and write a satirical poem to celebrate National Clerihew Day.

A Clerihew is a four-line biographical poem which was invented by English author, Edmund Clerihew Bentley.

There is, however, a criteria to write a Clerihew.

1. It has to be four lines

2. It needs to have rhyming couplets of AA/BB

3. A person’s name has to be in the first line

4. You need to say something about that person

5. It must make you smile

Need a bit more inspiration?

Here is one of Edmund’s famous Clerihews:

Sir Humphry Davy
Abominated Gravy
He lived in the odium
Of having discovered sodium

Write your own Clerihew and share them with us.
