ANC throws cat among Davidsonville DA pigeons

Du Plooy also said its time the small businesses in Davidsonville are legitimised and embraced in order to solve the problem of unemployment.

ANC Zone five member, Rudi du Plooy has launched a scathing attack on DA Councillor Gert Niemand accusing him of absenteeism in the Davidsonville community.

Du Plooy said the community is complaining to him that Niemand is not reachable and never answers his phone. Du Plooy brought up various other service delivery issues which he feels is being neglected by the DA councillor. These include:

• The park being neglected and not fit for use by children.

• The lack of street lights in this community.

• Illegal dumping that is rife in Davidsonville.

• Niemand’s incapability to fix problems citing a recent incident where a drain kept on leaking and Du Plooy claims he had it fixed in one day.

• Niemand’s silence during the recent Roodepoort Primary debacle. Although Niemand has said in the past that the issue was a provincial one, Du Plooy disagrees saying it is still local and in the interest of the community. He believes Niemand should have facilitated the whole process. Du Plooy says he was at every meeting at Roodepoort Primary in his ANC capacity to support the community.

He also said when Davidsonville residents contact him he sorts out the problems in his ANC capacity and that he does not need to inform the councillor of every issue the ANC has resolved in his ward.

According to Du Plooy DA councillors who claim they can not solve problems due to the fact that the City is ANC, is a “sob story”. He also said the problem is that when an ANC councillor is contacted things happen but when a DA councillor is contacted they “always say there is no budget”.

Niemand strongly differed with him.

“Issues such as electricity and burst pipes is the responsibility of the service delivery entity in question. The position of the councillor is political. It is my responsibility to act on behalf of the people when a problem is reported but not addressed,” Niemand said.

“As far as the Roodepoort Primary issue is concerned both me and my party felt it had racist undertones and the DA do not want to get involved where racism is at play,” said Niemand.

“I am not surprised, this was totally expected. With the elections next year drawing closer you will see more hot heads from across the political spectrum popping up like mushrooms claiming they can solve problems better and that I am not good for the community,” he concluded.
