Petting zoo to keep doors open

Iconic petting zoo Jungloe Nook will not be closing it's doors afterall

The Jungle Nook petting zoo is set to remain open after the owners of West Rand Pet and Bird farm bought it. The zoo was set to close at the end of this month and most of the animals have already been sold. The zoo’s former owner Cecile Gomes said the reason she sold the zoo was because of a conflict she had with one of the tenants.

Cecil said she has been hard at work, making sure the animals the animals have been safely moved on to appropriate venues.

“Most of the animals have been relocated to a place near Lanseria while some have been moved to a farm in Rustenburg. We have made sure that each place is adequate for the animals to live,” she said.

After selling the zoo to the West Rand Pet and Bird Farm owners Garry and Jeandrè Saunders and Pauline Geyer, Cecil immediately halted the relocation of the animals.

Big plans are on the horizon for the Jungle Nook such as arranging school tours, getting a guide to educate children about the different animals.

“We will first renovate the zoo then get some tame animals that will be child-friendly and won’t harm them. We will have a guide that will have knowledge about animals,” said Garry.
