West Rand hosts Welpie

The West Rand Wrestling Gymnasium hosted their annual Welpie Amateur Wrestling Tournament this weekend.

The 12-year-old tournament started as means to practice between clubs in the Central Gauteng province.

This year, eight clubs participated in the tournament including Johan Theron Wrestling Club, Akasia Wrestling Club and Ruiter Wrestling Club.

From the U/6 to U/16 to the Masters divisions, there were more than 100 participants filling up the Witpoortjie Recreational Centre.

West Rand picked up four gold medals and five silver medals while Die Ruiter got four gold medals and four silver medals.

Danie Van Zyl wrestling club were in third position with two gold, two silver and one bronze medal.
