Constant wins silver medal in para-canoe

Constant Olivier finished second at the Gauteng Canoe Union Sprint Championships this weekend.

The event, held at Roodeplaat Dam aims to identify the top talent in sprint canoeing to represent the Gauteng Team at the upcoming interprovincial races.

Constant won the silver medal after accumulating points enough point earned from the 500 metre and 200 metre races for the para-canoeing discipline.

These were the first ever para canoeing sprint races in Gauteng at the Sprint Championship hosted by the Gauteng Canoe Union.

It was the first time that para canoeists competed in an official race in Gauteng.

Another first for the region was the inclusion of the C1 racers (kneeling canoes instead of the seated Kayaks), as well as C1 lady paddlers.

The para-canoeing Gauteng team which consists Constant, Divan Van Tonder, Graham Paull will participate in the upcoming SA Sprint Championships at the dam over Easter weekend.
