The Florida water polo team donated pet food and blankets worth R7 200 to the Roodepoort SPCA this weekend.
The donation is the result of a fundraiser the team hosted last month called Speedo Fest.
The musical festival had 36 bands participating to raise for the team to compete at the Durban Masters Water Polo Tournament earlier this month.
The SPCA staff were on hand to accept the donation.
“It feels great to help because the SPCA needs all the help it can get. We need to do what we can and we will continue to help them in the future as much as possible. We would like to thank Peter Ferreira, a member of the polo team who was in charge of organizing Speedo Fest and making sure it’s successful. He is leaving the club for a while but he will return,” said team member Nick Beard.
The polo club also had an improvement in their performances at the water polo tournament.
“We did better than we did in previous years. We won a game and drew another. We worked hard all year preparing for the tournament and we saw the improvement in the way we played. It was a fun tournament to be a part of,” said Nick.
