Big promises out of ANC service delivery summit

The City of Joburg will spend over R100 billion on infrastructure over 10 years.

The leadership in Zone 5 which consists of eight ANC Branches held a Service Delivery Summit last weekend.

Executive Mayor Parks Tau and his committee were also present in the meeting.

Some of the issues ANC zonal chairperson Phosane Mngqibisa voiced are the challenges of high traffic congestion in particular Hendrik Potgieter Road, municipal billing, illegal mining, and the ailing infrastructure as a major challenge to investment.

In response to those issues, the mayor talked about Joburg 2040 Growth and Development Strategy.

The development strategy will see City of Joburg spend over R100 billion on infrastructure over 10 years in three areas of investment with the population growing by over 120 000 each year.

“To get those who do not have services, to recapitalize aging infrastructure and identifying new areas of investment in the City. These are three areas of investment we have identified,” said Tau.

Princess development, Mathole development and Fleeurhof development have been earmarked for the investment.

City of Joburg has also set aside R1 billion and R3 billion in the next financial year for The Blue Economy opportunities in the Joburg nutritional pledge Mine Dumps.

This project will attempt to convert mine dust into paper and convert mine water into portable drinkable water.

The city will introduce new technology for electricity generation and will introduce a system that will send messages to the meter and house owner to reduce electricity consumption.If the house owner does not comply, then their electricity will be cut off for a period of time.
