Vuyo Mvoko, a contributing editor at the South African Broadcasting Corporation (SABC) became one of the latest victims of a mugging incident, broadcasted live on television this evening 10 March.

The incident happened just outside the Netcare Milpark Hospital in full view of the SABC’s cameras as Mvoko was about to go live during a 7 O’ clock news bulletin to report on Zambian President, Edgar Lungu’s visit to the hospital.

On a video clip the SABC released on YouTube two men can be seen approaching Mvoko.

“One of the men came looking for a phone,” he said.

“I had my phone in my hand because I had just spoken to the executive producer about the crossing for the bulletin.”

When he refused to hand it over the man then called his accomplice who had a gun.

Mvoko said they left the scene on foot with three cellphones and the laptop used for the live crossing.
