Maragon private school open aquatics centre

Maragon Private School cut the ribbon to officially open their brand new aquatic centre.

The schools ambassador Penny Heynes attended the event along with the Maravest COO Japie Visser and the schools CEO Gideon van Niekerk. Heynes had a brief conversation with the pupils about how to achieve in not only sports but life.

The schools new director of sport Ymke Schutte was excited by the new facility and said the school now offers world class facilities in hockey and swimming.
“We still need to work and get the learners involved in sport. Not only do we have an aquatic centre but we have a hockey astro-turf. These facilities will give our learners an opportunity to be successful. If we work hard, I foresee a future where we not only dominate in the West Rand but maybe even the entire province,” he said.

With the new facility, the school has plans such as a night gala where pupils from grade five to seven can swim, hosting an inter-high competition in March and even host a Prestige event.

Tracey Hemphill, the Aquatics head coach who started last year is already hard at work with a learn to swim programme.

“It’s thanks to Maragon private school for such a great facility and its fantastic for the pupils of the school and children from the nearby areas who make use of the facilities. The pupils have such enthusiasm and I hope to carry that and use it to create a team with spirit and depth. Right now we are focusing on development and to give them skills that might save their lives in the future,” said Hemphill.
