Hoerskool Florida host athletics competition

Hoerskool Florida hosted a friendly athletics competition this past Friday. Hoerskole Voorentoe, Vereeneging and Springs Girls and Boys High schools were invited to participate in track and field events such as high and long jump and hurdles.

The atmosphere was electric both on and off the field as the supporters from the different schools raised their decibels with every passing song. The friendly competition is in preparation for next week’s Prestige Inter High Athletics.

The standout pupils from Florries were Donovan Fourie who finished first in the boys u.16 javelin, shot put and discus.

Tino Swanepoel dominated in the boys’ u.15 category, finishing first in the long jump, 100m hurdles, 100m sprint and 200m sprint.

Lene van Jaarsveld finished first in the girls u.17 100m, 200m, 400m sprints and second in the u.17 long jump.

Marlene van Niekerk finished first in the girls u.16 100m and 200m sprint.

Kurtwill Marks finished first in the boys u.16 100m and 200m sprint.
