One of Florida’s most wanted behind bars

'Prince of thieves' suspect arrested.

* Due to the fact that the suspect has not pleaded yet, he will be referred to as ‘Peter’. The two sources fear for their lives and the one source was a minor when alleged sexual abuse took place. They will be referred to as ‘Gina’ and ‘Hannes’.

A suspect in the ‘Prince of Thieves’ burglary that took place in December was arrested shortly afterwards and is currently being held at Krugersdorp Correctional Services.

It is alleged that the Florida police have been looking for him for a considerable time. It is also believed that he has been involved in a variety of crimes including car theft, vehicle theft, credit card theft, assault, snatching handbags, carrying an unlicensed firearm, burglary, theft of CCTV cameras and theft and the possession of 300 stolen cellphones. One of his cohorts is still roaming the streets of Florida while two of his other partners are believed to be armed and dangerous and allegedly looking for the two sources.

The two sources, Gina,17, and Hannes,30, who knows him intimately due to the fact that Peter, 22, has a relationship with Gina’s sister, says that he was one of the most wanted criminals in the Florida area and known for the speed with which he committed his crimes.

According to them he also escaped the police on numerous occasions until he was finally arrested in December at his girlfriends residence where he also resided.

Gina and Peter suspects there might be corrupt police officials involved either at the Florida or Roodepoort police station because every time Peter was arrested the previous times he would walk free as soon as he is transferred to the Roodepoort police station.

They also alleges that Peter was stealing in order to support him and his girlfriend’s addiction to crystal methamphetamine.

Gina says her parents who resided at the same address as the suspect was fully aware of his criminal activities but kept quiet due to the fact that he supplied them with money in order to support their gambling addiction. Some of the stolen goods were also kept at the flat.

According to Hannes the stolen goods amounts to more than a R150 000.

Gina, who was raped at an early age, and Peter who has been severely affected by the activities of the suspect, indicated that they will soon give an account of the whole sordid tale that includes sexual abuse, prostitution of a minor and an assault on an aged person.

The couple is planning to lay charges against those involved in Peter’s criminal underworld.

The suspect will appear in the Roodepoort Magistrates Court on 3 February.

The record believes it is in possession of CCTV footage of two incidents where the suspect was stealing CCTV cameras and one where he burgled a hardware store in Discovery.
