Update: Sword-murder accused boy (16) in court

"The boy is currently being assessed by a panel of experts."

The boy, 16, that allegedly stabbed and murdered his grandmother, 76, has been taken to the Bosasa Youth Development Centre that has an office in Mogale City following his first court appearance.

Bosasa Youth Development Centre looks after children between the ages of 14 and 17 that are in conflict with the law. The boy appeared in court on Wednesday afternoon 17 December.

The grandmother was murdered at the family home in Georginia. His name is withheld as he is a minor.

According to Roodepoort Police spokesperson Nonhlanhla Khumalo the boy appeared in court on Wednesday afternoon on murder charges.

“The case is still open,” she said.

According to family-appointed lawyer Aadil Lambat of the Fullard Mayer Morrison Firm in Sandton, the boy will go through the full court process.

“This is a tragic situation that led to the loss of life,” he told the record.

“The boy is currently being assessed by a panel of experts.”

Lambat said that his next court date will depend on the outcome of the assessment and will be confirmed in the week to come.

“I have been instructed by the family to only give this information and no further statements until such time that they feel a full media statement in necessary,” Lambat told the record.
